Intimate bossa nova blended with the world
With a huge fascination for bossa nova, improvisation, jazz and tradional music, Luiz Murá seeks to connect Brazil with other melodies and rhythms from around the world.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Luiz had always been close to a musical atmosphere. Listening to samba on the bars and streets of Brazil together with by his multicultural family: Japanese, Portuguese, Brazilian, Sicilian and Calabrian, mixing music and cultures was present in his nature since before he was even born. He studied at 3 important music schools in Brazil, and also received a prize for new songwriters/composers in São Paulo to record his first album.
Since then, he has moved to Barcelona, worked with many important musicians from the world scene, and founded the group Miramundo, .
His new solo album “Origem” is a tribute to the music of João Gilberto, the father of bossa nova, who passed away in 2019. With a Brazilian rosewood Jacarandá Bahia guitar, voice and 2 condenser c414 microphones, Luiz recreates the intimacy and detail of the origins of bossa nova while exploring the connections with his own personal origins, aiming to move an authentic step forward from the bossa nova tradition.
